From London Pat and I flew to Shannon, Ireland to meet my son David and his friend, Martin. While we were in the air for a very short flight, Michelle and Claire were flying back to Salt Lake City.
We met David at the Shannon airport and took a bus into Limerick and the Woodfield House Hotel. We spent a rainy hike around the city with a stop at The Treaty City Brewery. Good brews and a nice atmosphere – no pretention here.
Later in the day Martin, who flew into Dublin from his home in California, arrived by bus and make his way to the hotel where we enjoyed a nice meal in the hotel’s attached restaurant.
The next day, Sunday, we walked into Limerick to pick up a rental car. Then we drove back to the hotel to pickup Pat and our luggage. It was then off to Kenmare Cottage in Kerry County.
For Pat and me, coming from the desert climate in Utah, one of the outstanding features of Ireland is how green and wet things were. No wonder it is known as the Emerald Island.

Highlights
- Limerick – University of Limerick where Martin and Ray bought t-shirts and Pat got a coffee mug, also the place where we picked up and dropped off the rental car (Enterprise)
- Bunratty – Bunratty Haven B&B which we would recommend. We has dinners at Durty Nelly’s and The Creamery.
- Inishmore – Doolin Ferry, Inis Mor Pier, Gabriel Faherty (tour guide and owner of Aran Islands Goats Cheese), Kilmurvey Craft Village, Tigh Nan Phaidi, Na Seacht dTeampaill (The Seven Churches) and the Cliffs of Moher (from the water)
- Buren – The Burren and the Ballyallaban Geo Park, Poulnabrone (Portal Tomb)
- Dublin – Clink I Lar Hostel, Variety Jones, Trinity College
Pat and I flew to Heathrow for one night before flying back to Salt Lake City. David and Martin took a train to Belfast then returned to Dublin for the night. The next day David flew back to Columbus, Oh; Martin, back to California.
